THE EFFECTS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ON WOMEN

·         May overcompensate with children.

·         May become abusive towards children.

WHY WOMEN STAY IN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS

 

Below are some possible reasons

·         He has threatened to kill her if she leaves.

·         She is afraid of him.

·         She thinks he’ll get better.

·         He has promised to change, and she believes him.

·         She thinks it is partially her fault because she did want to make him jealous.

·         She loves him.

·         She is afraid she won’t find another partner.

·         She thinks he loves her.

·         When he is nice to her he is wonderful.

·         She doesn’t want to be alone.

·         She believes she can help him to change.

·         She has seen this type of violence at home and accepts it as inevitable.

·         She feels that his extreme jealousy is a sign that he really loves her.

·         He has never really “hurt her” Just small bruises and she doesn’t really think that low level of violence is abuse.

·         She feels sorry for him.

·         She has low self-esteem as a result of the abusive relationship.

·         If she has children with him, she is hesitant to separate her children from their father.
